There are so many books that can influence us in powerful ways. Poetry can add to life its beauty, while works of fiction can throw in a dash of imagination. However, no other book can make such a contribution to our lives as biographies.

          All of us, at some point have wanted to be something we couldn’t. Maybe it was a character in a movie, or a traveler through a fantastical land. Yet, while we wish we could lead the adventuresome or idyllic lives of these fictional characters, it is never truly obtainable. That’s where the magic of biographies comes in.

Time and again I am inspired by the real-life people and real-life accomplishments that we read about from figures of history. Adventures like those of Marco Polo or great discoveries like those of Louie Pasture can fascinate the mind and inspire the soul. What makes these figures even greater is their humanity. Milton Hershey may have become the world’s best known confectionary magnate, but before that, he went bankrupt. Twice, actually. Before William Wilberforce gave his life to serving others, he spent much of it only pleasing himself. That essence is the power of a biography. 

          While none of us may ever be the perfect knight in armor, or the scientist that knows the answer to every problem, each of us can be just like these heroes of the past. And that?
